In the past, there are many theives who have successful or attempted to rob the automated teller machines (ATM). But now, Bank Negara has set the new practices which they will plant a dye bombs in the ATMs.
This has been practices in 75% of banks in the United States. A dye pack is placed in a hollowed-out space within a stack of the banknotes and will be activated by the banks via radio-transmitter controlled. Then the money will be permanently marked with red dye after the robbery happens. Another practices is where the banks have dye bombs in vaults and any unauthorised person who tries to remove any money will trigger the bomb, leaving all the money and the robber stained in ink.

HOW IT WORKS?
If the thieves attempt to tampers with the ATM, the bomb will goes off and the notes will be stained in red and people will know that it is the stolen money. The actual triggering mechanism is a trade secret and it will not be disclosed to the public. Bank tellers will be trained to detect those stolen money.

The notes that has been stained can be replaced under this guidelines which has been set by Bank Negara:
- The ink has to be indelible by water, fuel, gas, bleach and detergent
- It must be traceable to the ATM, to assist police investigations
- It must stain at least 10% of each bank note
- It can be detected and rejected by banknotes authentication machines used by banks such as Cash Deposit Machines
- It must be non-hazardous and non-toxic
